With just a few weeks until 15 teams gear up for 1000 miles across a frozen river. On a bunch of 1940’s Russian Urals, complete with sidecar. Temperatures exceeding -40°C.
The ice run involves competitors racing from the start at the Ural motorcycle factory in Irbit, and navigating their own way to the finish at Salekhard, the only town in the world that is actually on the Arctic Circle. Navigating their way along the frozen river Ob on these battered bikes, the teams start the race on February 8th.
With all the competitors using the similar classic ww2 vintage Ural, supplied by the event organisers.
While modern Urals will easily shrug off 1000 miles at -40°C. These aren’t modern.
With Brit Simon Limpus and New Zealand team mate, Dave Murray competing in the race we’ll keep you updated as teams try to reach the end of the Ob.
So if your wanting to join Simon and Dave in Russia, you better hurry, and these trips don't come cheap, so you can be expecting a quick trip to webuyanybike and having to trade that CBR for a chance on the 1940 Ural.
